15 Photos, 1 Location EP.10 - Seahouses
We made it to double figures and location number 10 was Seahouses. The quaint fishing village nestled on the Northumberland coast is not the easiest place to photograph in my opinion. Theres a lot going on, but its also always very busy due to it being one of the major gateways to the Farne Islands. The north sea’s sanctuary for thousands of seabirds, people flock to Seahouses in order to take the Puffin tours via boats that leave the bustling harbour.
The harbor, a hive of activity with colourful boats and signs of the fishing industry everywhere does make for some great photographs, especially if you manage to separate the crowds from your photos. I always enjoy sitting on the harbour wall and watching life unfold, sometimes staying posted up and simply observing whats happening around you can bring photo opportunities to you, instead of actively moving around to find them.
Sitting on the rocks to the south of the harbor you’ll find the Seahouses Gunpowder House. Also known as the ‘Dynamite Hut’ - Built in 1886 to store the gunpowder safely away from the village. The gunpowder stored here would be used to blow up and gather rocks for the construction of the pier/habor. Personally I think this little stone hut with a rusty gate makes for some great photos, its rare to see a structure sitting almost out at sea. I’m yet to see it at high tide but would imagine the long exposure opportunities here are great so aim to photograph it at high tide in the future.
The very green segment - As Lupin joined me again on this photo walk we headed off in the direction of the nearby golf course to stretch his legs a bit on the grassy area. The English Coast Path (Southbound) actually passes through the golf course, which is a bit strange, but if you hug the cliff edges the coastal views are stunning and theres lots of seabird spotting to be done in the right season.
As always the video version of this episode containing all the behind the scenes footage (and a good old ramble) can be found below. In this particular episode I was talking about how I set up my custom modes across all my cameras for fast and reliable photography. Now this may change in the future as I’m always tinkering with what I need most out of my cameras. But if that’s something that interests you, then you can hear all about it in the video below, alongside the behind the scenes photos.
